Gwadar: The Department of Zoology, University of Gwadar, organized an educational field visit to the Fisheries Department, Gwadar, the Forest/Wildlife Department, and Gwadar Fish Harbour, providing students with valuable practical exposure to professional institutions and real-world applications of Zoological sciences. Ms. Ateeqa Baloch, In-charge, Department of Zoology, and Ms. Sumaiyah Karim, Faculty Member, Department of Zoology, led the visit. The field visit aimed to bridge the gap between classroom-based theoretical learning and practical experience. It enabled students to observe professional practices and gain firsthand knowledge of fisheries management, aquatic resources, wildlife conservation, biodiversity, ecosystem management, environmental protection, and fish harbour operations. The visit commenced at the Fisheries Department, Gwadar, where Mr. Shah Fahad, Assistant Director Fisheries, and Mr. Sagheer Zaman, ADF, DG Fisheries Office, welcomed the delegation and interacted with the students. They briefed the students on the functions and responsibilities of the Fisheries Department, fisheries management, aquatic resources, and career opportunities in the fisheries sector. The students actively participated in an informative discussion and gained valuable insights into the importance of sustainable fisheries management, particularly for coastal communities and the development of the blue economy. The delegation subsequently visited the Forest/Wildlife Department, where Mr. Asadullah, Deputy Conservator Forest/Wildlife, delivered a comprehensive briefing on forest and wildlife conservation, biodiversity protection, ecosystem management, and environmental sustainability. He also provided guidance on professional opportunities and prospects in conservation and environmental sciences. As part of an initiative to promote environmental awareness and a greener environment, he provided plants to the students for planting and nurturing, emphasizing the importance of individual and collective responsibility in protecting and sustaining the environment. The final destination of the field visit was the Gwadar Mini Port/Fish Harbour, where Engineer Liaqat Baloch, In-charge, Gwadar Mini Port/Fish Harbour, warmly welcomed the delegation and briefed the students on harbour operations, fish landing and handling, marketing, and auction procedures. He also accompanied the students to the fish auction hall, where they observed firsthand the processes of fish landing, handling, auctioning, and trade. The visit provided students with a practical understanding of the commercial and operational aspects of the fisheries sector. The field visit served as an important component of experiential learning, enabling students to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications and professional practices. Such academic activities enhance scientific observation, practical skills, professional interaction, and students’ understanding of the region’s rich biodiversity, marine resources, and environmental significance.
